Please read everything here if you would like to commission me, as this information is subject to change. These terms apply mostly to my watercolor paintings. If you have something else in mind, send me an e-mail!
Pricing:
Payment is for my time, skills, and materials, not the characters contained in the image.
An 8'' x 10'' to 9'' x 12'' image of a single character or subject with a simple or minimal back ground is $65 USD.
Increase in size, number of subjects, or complexity increases the price. For every additional subject/character, add $20 USD.
Please email me for a project-specific quote, especially if you want to go bigger or smaller than the basic outlined above. There's no obligation to buy by getting a quote.
Payment is required up front in full. I do not begin work without payment, and I certainly won't deliver or ship without it.
Payment by PayPal (ladyyatexel at gmail dot com), in US dollars. I do not accept points or any other website-specific virtual currency, sorry!
Subjects:
My work is often female characters, sci-fi and fantasy characters/themes, space backgrounds, and blood. These are not requirements, but subjects I'm familiar with and do often and well. Take a look at my gallery to get an idea of the kind of images I make.
I reserve the right to turn down your commission proposal for any reason. Things I do not do in general are:
Sexually explicit imagery (suggestive is doable, artistic nudity is fine, porn is not)
Promotion of hate or intolerance of any kind
Objectification of women
Celebrity portraits/actors out of character
Homestuck, Nightvale, and Sherlock
Process:
Send me a description of what you'd like me to paint for you, including subjects, size, and medium, and make sure to note if you would need it by a certain date. We'll also go over what general style you'd like and I'll get any references or descriptions I'll need from you.
Once I've accepted the commission and received payment, I'll send you thumbnail sketches (usually digital, regardless of final medium) of possible compositions and colors and you and I will work out which one we like from those.
I'll make a pencil drawing from the thumbnails (assuming the image is traditional) and email you a copy for approval or changes. This is where anything big can be changed. To protect myself from abuse of my time, I put a soft limit of three revisions on both thumbnails and pencil before you will need to pay a little extra.
Once you approve the pencil, I'll ink and paint, and then send you another scan of the final. Tiny changes can be made here, but most of the image will be committed to final here. Once you approve, I can send you the final.
This process takes on average three weeks, but can be shorter or longer depending on subject matter, size of the project, my overall work load, health, and regular communication. I will let you know if I expect a project to take me an especially long time as soon as I suspect it.
Delivery:
Delivery can be physical or digital. I usually ship within a day or two of finishing an image.
If you need to have an image by a certain date, be sure to factor in time for shipping.
Physical delivery comes plastic bagged in a cardboard envelope and requires the buyer to pay for shipping. All shipments within the US come with a tracking number unless you opt out. I am not responsible for lost shipments. I do ship internationally, but tracking numbers will only let us know when a shipment leaves US custody and enters your country's, so unless you request and pay for one, they are not included on international shipments. Insurance and expedited shipping are available to purchase as well, just ask.
Digital delivery is usually reserved for digital work. I send a high-resolution (usually 300dpi) file to you for you to print for yourself. This doesn't cost anything.
Rights and Usage:
I retain the rights to the image and the reproduction rights. This means I can make and sell prints (the exception to this is images featuring original characters or images of real people. I won't sell prints or make anything from these images unless the owners of the characters/faces involved consent), show it in galleries and portfolios online and off, and make icons and other digital layout items with it. In most cases, the image I post publicly will feature a watermark of some kind.
You have the right as the commissioner to use the image for icons, layouts, illustrations for stories, and for personal enjoyment printed and framed on your wall or other personal space. Please credit me somewhere in the digital scenarios.
You don't have the right to reproduce the work and sell prints, exhibit it, or use it to sell anything else, however. This includes no posting to your own deviantart (or similar website) account. Those rights lie solely with me. If this is not something you can agree to, then you should not commission me.
Any characters depicted in my work remain the property of their original owners.
